The driver of the van was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Waterbury Hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries” after the crash with a school bus on Route 34 near the Stevenson Dam, police told the Monroe Courier.
Route34 was closed for about four hours after the crash.
Original story: MONROE, Conn. — Route 34 will be closed for an extended time Wednesday after a crash involving a school bus and another motor vehicle, Monroe police said.
The accident occurred on Route 34 in Monroe near the Stevenson Dam.
Monroe Police said no students were on board the school bus.
The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department said at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday that crews were responding to a major motor vehicle accident. Route 34 is closed between Route 111 and the Oxford town line. Stevenson Dam carries Route 34 from Monroe to Oxford.
Monroe crews were operating along with crews from the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company, the Stepney Fire Department, the Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Company and the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
There is a detour from Route 111 to Route 110 in Monroe. Cars approaching the dam from the Oxford side are being turned around.
